Catwoman is presenting. First pics of Anne Hathaway in Dark Knight Rises.

Warner Bros just released this official image of Anne Hathaway as Selena Kyle in The Dark Knight Rises. I put the other two, possibly spoilery (but not really) set photos after the jump so no one would cry, even though this headline would’ve made way more sense with one of those in the banner. In any case, I’m interested in how this Catwoman character is going to work. For as much as Christopher Nolan gets his balls licked for these movies (rightly so), one of the biggest failings has always been the casting of the female roles. I love Anne Hathaway and all, and I think she’s a solid actress and it goes without saying that I’d totally do her, but if I have to pretend that Anne Hathaway can beat up a full grown man, it’s going to require more suspension of disbelief than pretending Katie Holmes is a hard-nosed District Attorney or that someone would refer to Maggie Gyllenhaal as “helloooo, beautiful.” (She’s attractive in a non-‘beautiful’ kind of way…)

And here she is the “I’m Presenting” Cycle (yay, NOW the headline makes sense!). I hope she has to do a lot of stuff in this position. “BATMAN! Come see my new ergonomic desk!”
“Uh, but, baby… it looks great from over here.”
UPDATE: Okay, I’m being told these set pictures are of the stunt double, not Anne Hathaway. I’d like to talk her into a “stunt double” sometime, gnome sayin? (I don’t know what that means).

Back in June, there was a report that Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman would likely look something like Darwyn Cooke’s version of the character seen during Ed Brubaker’s comic book run. That’s evidently not true. But from that same report came a description of the costume from someone inside the film’s production. They described it like so:
“Anne’s outfit is more tactical, like the comic book, than the previous Batman movies. She will definitely be wearing the goggles and it’s going to be less sexy than Halle Berry and Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman costumes. She’s going to look more like a robber.”

Hmm, I’m glad they sacrificed sexiness for believability, ALL the robbers I know wear leather onesies. What exactly makes her a cat again? Is it the thigh-high boots?
