From Aardman Animation, the studio behind Wallace & Gromit and Flushed Away, comes the new trailer for The Pirates! Band of Misfits, starring a barely-recognizable (which may be a good thing) Hugh Grant as the voice of the lead pirate. It opens next March, and the trailer is pretty self-explanatory. I guess it shouldn’t surprise me that a claymation-animated children’s film shows so much more wit, sophistication, and craft than Jerry Bruckheimer’s collection of tired clichés starring Johnny Depp juggling vases and ruining fancy dinner parties ostensibly aimed at adults. And yet for all the easy pandering they do in those things, they didn’t think to include a single fish wearing a pirate hat?

I feel like this movie just gets me, you know?

A fish dressed up in a pirate hat? Let’s try not to give Ramon any new ideas, shall we?
I can’t quite put my finger on it but something about this movie seems fishy….

No floundering at the box office for this one.
The California Raisins approve…
More sole than anything Jerry Bruckheimer could imagine?
You had me with a dressed-up pirate fish. You really sealed the deal with the triple monocle pop. Bravo, Claymation pirate movie, you beautiful bastard!
I have a feeling that, compared to Bruckheimer’s, this one will be less arrrrduous.
It’s painful to see Hugh Grant flounder about in roles like this. He barracuda been a real star…fish
@Shop 101 Sorry I didn’t see your floundering reference first… that was real carppy of me
My editorial clemency would’ve risen fast/

TALLY, HO!
There but for the grace of cod go I, Monsieur. Don’t be so roughy on yourself.
Best news ever. The books, by Gideon Defoe, are short and sweet and hilarious.
