Cars 2 will almost certainly become Pixar’s first “Rotten” film according to the Tomatometer. Who could’ve imagined a film with Dreamworks Face in every poster starring Larry the Cable Guy as the voice of a tow truck wouldn’t be a critical darling? Why, that’d be like trying to predict whether Larry the Cable Guy will wear sleeves. |RottenTomatoes|
Cars 2 and Bad Teacher are the movies that are opening this weekend. I don’t have time to do a Weekend Movie Guide, I’m sorry. In fairness, I did have the Bad Teacher writers on the Frotcast. |Yahoo|
Men in Black 3 will cost $215 million (that’s NET PRODUCTION BUDGET, supposedly). Money well spent, I’m sure. Can’t wait for the Wild Wild West reboot. |TheWrap|
King of Kong director Seth Gordon remaking War Games. Notice I was nice and didn’t call him “Four Christmases director Seth Gordon.” I’ll tell you how I feel about this idea when we find out whether his newest film, Horrible Bosses, is any good. So far, it’s… not looking good (though I do love Colin Farrell). Make Billy Mitchell the villain in all movies from now on. The man is a nefarious hot sauce magnate. That sh*t will never, ever get old. |Deadline|
E from Entourage wants to direct a Kimbo Slice biopic. Kimbo would play himself (Note: this is never going to happen). No joke, I pitched a Kimbo Slice profile five years ago for a job I didn’t get. That was before I realized people wanted to be told stories they’ve already heard. It’s like the inner me, was the enemy. The INNER me, was the ENERmy. The INNER me. Was the ENNERMY. But good luck to Kevin Connolly as a director. The fact that he’s completely unlikable as an actor is a big part of the reason Entourage isn’t very good. |TheWrap|
Here’s KRS-One reviewing Bad Teacher:
He liked it so much he almost sounds like Sony’s marketing department talking points. The Pete Hammond of hip hop?

I’m guessing that 77% of the audience liked it because approximately 77% of the audience was children.
Wow. I guess Larry the Cable Guy’s suck is powerful enough to destroy Pixar’s awesome.
Coming in 2013 from Pixar: Beans starring Carlos Mencia
Well it was bound to happen to Pixar, but it almost seems that they did it to themselves on purpose. Cars is easily Pixar’s weakest offering, (followed by the Dreamworksiesque rat one) who fucked up and decided to make a sequel? Maybe they’ll get a good dose of humility from this. Kinda like how Steve Jobs needs to take a huge shit on the kitchen floor that’s worse than the segue of the iPhone 3 so he’ll drop the messiah complex.
Cars 2 is the Pixar equivalent of a Disney direct-to-DVD sequel. You know they only did it because the merchandise is so insanely popular. And, to be fair, kids really do love it. But it’s disappointing coming from someone like Pixar, who typically manages to make movies that are just as enjoyable for adults.
Hell, even my cars-obsessed 4-year-old nephew knows that Toy Story is better than Cars.
*or the iPhone…
KRS-One’s praise for Cameron Diaz’s performance was about as positive as his review of Mohammed Atta’s work.
Here’s a newsflash for Pixar, unless you’re sitting in a real Ferrari or you fill your movies with supermodels like the fast and bi-curious, cars are boring.
I love pixar, Wall-E was a work of art. However, lately I’ll take Dreamworks’ How to train your dragon. Vikings, groundbreaking animated explosions, and an adorable cat-dragon FTW.
I’d hate to say something genuinely positive…but: I have yet to listen to the frotcast (I wait until I go to the gym to do that machine where you squeeze your legs together) but the fake Brett Remix beginning (Hey hey hey hey) had me dying. Literally.
It’s a vast, right-wing conspiracy.
The DisneyToon animation studio, which makes direct-to-DVD films, is at work on a “Cars” spinoff, “Planes,” due for release in 2013.
Mr. Lasseter, who also oversees DisneyToon, said that if “Planes” is successful, he may build additional titles around boats, trains and other vehicles.

“On track”? Really, Vince? Really?
Preface: New to posting comments on Filmdrunk. This is where we post comedic one-liners that try to one up the previous comment, right? Perfect.
Saw “Cars 2″ last night. Thought it was a pretty good spinoff to “Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector”. Don’t know why they animated him as a car though. 11/10
You can tell from the title that it’s the laziest of all Pixar movies. If they used the same strategy for their other movies their films would be called Toys, Bugs, Monsters, Fish, Rats, Robots and Old Guy With Fat Kid
Whoever has it in the Blockbuster game is sitting pretty. It’s projecting a $70 million+ opening weekend. I think it was Mencken who said nobody ever lost money betting on the stupidity of children.
