So this week we got to interview Parry Gripp, he of awesome-internet-song and underrated-rock-band fame. Hopefully I didn’t make toooo much of an ass of myself, but the fact that we managed to do an interview that wasn’t just 20 minutes of girlish squeals has to be considered a success. INTERVIEW STARTS AT THE 47-MINUTE MARK. We talked
death in the late 90s, the Santa Barbara Orchid Estate, and lots of other fun stuff. One interesting note was the genesis of “The Girl at the Video Game Store,” the song G4 eventually used for Attack of the Show and made a video for starring Olivia Munn (which he’d recorded on his own before G4 came along).
“I was trying to buy a Nintendo Wii, and I was working on this record for Hallmark, of kids’ music. And my system was to work late into the evening, and then wake up in the morning and take the things that I’d recorded, go to Starbucks, buy a cup of coffee, and listen to what I’d made the night before. Then I’d walk to the video store right when they opened and see if they had a Wii. And it was probably a couple weeks before I got one. So I’d go in there, and there was this girl who worked there. And I’m kind of older, but I know if I was younger, I would’ve been kind of fixated on her, because that’s just the kind of nerd I was in high school. So every day for a couple weeks I’d go in there, and I’d ask if the Wii was in yet, and the girl would be like, ‘You know, you could just call.’”
I should also include a link to Horrible Movie Night, which I think I was supposed to ask about but didn’t. In all seriousness, it sounds pretty cool if you live in the LA area. Besides Parry, we brought Lindy West back to talk Sucker Punch. Listen, share, enjoy.

(this is Heidi the Cross-Eyed Opossum, one of the Parry Gripp songs Danger Guerrero snubbed in yesterday’s feature)
And f*ck it, here’s Overweight Hedgehog, because why not.

What’s funny is that i totally updated the feature last night to include both of those songs, but I didn’t write “Update” anywhere in the feature. So now Vince just looks like a dick who didn’t click through all the way to the end of the slideshow.
HAHAHAHA. Dick.
I miss “News Team Assemble”
I’ve always wondered why this site’s anthem wasn’t Pervert by Nerf Herder. Well, you’re doing God’s work here either way.
Parry is writing a theme song for Horrible Movie Night!!! If he thinks it’s cool so should you. Everyone in LA go go go!
“I’ve Got a Boner for Christmas” was my cell phone ring for many years.
wait… Vince isn’t gay?
I wish the Frotcast was live so I could call in in real-time and tell Brett to stop interrupting Lindy.
Vince, you’re right about the music in Sucker Punch. It was fucking horrible and didn’t match up.
Parry is your favourite interview ever?
*SOB!*
/wrists
Superdrag sang “Sucked Out”–a.k.a., “Who sucked out the feelIIIIIIIING”–not to be confused with Naked, Cowboy Mouth, Howlin’ Maggie, Spacehog, or Poe, other pretty good bands of that brief moment in time.
*I* know who sang “Sucked Out”, it was that ignorant fuck Brendan who didn’t. Love that song. “Possum Kingdom” is my other favorite of that era.
I kinda liked the use of the Bjork track, “Army of Me” in Sucker Punch. The movie was a bit of a meh though.
Whilst stuck in traffic last week, I noticed a wood pigeon on a stretch of grass pecking repeatedly at a slice of bread, constantly flicking it in the air, which struck me as an inefficient way of going about eating something. One flip managed to land perfectly on the pigeon’s back leaving the dumb bird with no idea where it had gone as it circled around looking for it. First thought was, “that was worthy of a Parry Gripp song”.
who was screaming at the end?
The main failing of Sucker Punch was that none of the girls had boobs.
@bane of trebeks existence:
No, Vince isn’t gay. Just his hair is.
Oh shit, we bombed an orphanage, yo!
