ASIANS BE MARTIAL-ARTS FIGHTIN’
10.20.09This is the trailer for Su Qi-Er, aka True Legend, the latest flick from Yuen Woo-ping, the fight choreographer on the Matrix movies and Kill Bill. It stars Michelle Yeoh, Jay Chou (soon to be playing Kato in Seth Rogen’s Green Hornet movie), former Strikeforce middleweight champion Cung Le, David Carradine (though he’s not in the trailer), and Man Cheuk Chiu as the lead.
Su Qi-Er is a wealthy man living during the Qing Dynasty who loses his fortune and reputation as a result of a conspiracy against him. After being forced out onto the streets, Su dedicates his life to martial arts and reemerges as a patriotic hero known as the “King of Beggars.”
It looks basically like everything Fox’s Street Fighter movie could’ve and would’ve been if they’d made it about, you know, street fighting, instead of an origin story starring the chick from Smallville. Also, we have a king of beggars in my neighborhood. He wears a Burger King crown and yells, “I’m issuing a royal decree!” when he poops in the street.

Man, that cinematography had enough awesome to choke an aging movie sta… whoops.
They couldn’t get Steven Segal for the King of Beggars part?
Robo, looks like they may have enough rope to ha… oh.
I guess it would have been boring to make a movie about a man who was forced into the street and then got a job and moved back into an apartment and led a soul-crushing existence as part of the capitalist machine.
David Carradine should’ve had the lead…wait.
I am the King of Keggers, braaaaaaaaaah.
Yuen Woo-ping is so talented, he has specific camera angles named after him. Ever heard of the Woo-ping Crane shot?
Is his fine fighting sister Ahs Woo-ping in it?
No? Okay. What about when he shows an antagonist about to release a bio-weapon upon humanity, the Woo-ping Cough shot?
i heard Yuen Woo-pin’s cousin Woo-Ping Kush Ohn is a sound technitian
Carradine didn’t understand that Man Cheuk Chiu was his co star. He thought it was a suggestion.
Woo-ping and Billy Mays got in a fight over a bucket. Billy was all like, “This is my whopping 5 pound bucket” and Woo-ping was all like, “Nuh-uh, this a Woo-ping 5 pound bucket, biznatch.”
God, seeing Carradine in action again…sniffle…has got me all choked up.
What…too late..err…soon?
CAREFUL! He pees on peoples rugs! Or maybe that’s his cousin. I have no idea how their name system works.
There are no Asian knights as you can’t have a proper swordfight with a chink in the armor.
