THE ROMAN POLANSKI UPDATE RAPE
09.29.09
(Polanski taking home Munchkinland’s highest honor, the enchanted toadstool)
Here, have a quaalude while I ease this Roman Polanski update into you. Shh, baby, just relax. The latest word is that Polanski plans to fight his extradition to the US, hoping to make bail and/or have his case tried in Europe. Over on DailyBeast, lawyer Mark Geragos seems to think Polanski will never be returned to the US, and for some reason chose to examine the whole thing through the lens of California’s financial crisis:
In a bizarre twist, the U.S Government has apparently adopted a tactic normally reserved for deadbeat dads on Superbowl Sunday. Talk about This is Your Life.
Um, what? Don’t laywers normally have to, you know, make f’cking sense? Anyway, here’s his legal take:
Here’s why [Polanski's return to the U.S.] will likely never happen: For openers, the Swiss Justice Ministry must first examine the U.S request for transfer and approve it. The approval process could take months. Given the European uproar over Polanski’s arrest, it seems highly likely they may simply deny the transfer. Swiss officials have put themselves in the rather unenviable position of angering the U.S. if they do not proceed or angering the European community if they do. The answer may well come down to who exerts the most pressure and it is not clear that the U.S. has that great a desire to become embroiled in this mess. One can imagine that Obama and Hillary may be a little more preoccupied with Iran nuclear programs and health-care reform rather than a 30-year old case that is likely to be dismissed if Polanski sets foot on U.S soil.
European uproar? Oh right, that.
Earlier on Monday, French authorities expressed solidarity with Roman Polanski’s family and outrage over the arrest. French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said he hoped authorities would respect Polanski’s rights “and that the affair (will) come to a favorable resolution,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The French culture and communications minister, Frederic Mitterrand, said he “learned with astonishment” of Polanski’s arrest. He expressed solidarity with Polanski’s family and said “he wants to remind everyone that Roman Polanski benefits from great general esteem” and has “exceptional artistic creation and human qualities.” Mitterrand said he “greatly regrets that Mr. Polanski has had yet another difficulty added to an already turbulent existence.”
Look, normally I’m a pretty pro-Europe kind of guy. There are a lot of things they do better than us: healthcare, free higher education, the drinking age, prostitutes — but are they effing serious right now? The facts are: a 44-year-old man was accused of forcing himself on a 13-year-old who kept saying no. He pled it down to statutory and fled to France, and they just let him hang out there for 30 years because he was such a nice guy. Now the US wants him to come back and face sentencing where he probably wouldn’t get any jail time anyway, and somehow we’re the bad guy?
Filmmakers have reacted with outrage at the arrest. “As a Swiss filmmaker, I feel deeply ashamed,” Christian Frei said. “He’s a brilliant guy, and he made a little mistake 32 years ago. “What a shame for Switzerland,” said photographer Otto Weisser, a friend of Polanski.
The Polish Filmmakers Association posted a letter on its Web site Monday from the European Film Academy secretariat that protested “the arbitrary treatment of one of the world’s most outstanding film directors.”
The letter, which was read aloud at the festival, was signed by directors Wim Wenders, Volker Schloendorff and Bertrand Tavernier; actress Victoria Abril; cinematographer Peter Suschitzky; and screenwriter and actor Jean-Claude Carriere. [CNN]
“Little mistake”? “Arbitrary treatment”? F’ck these idiots. Roman Polanski should be returned to face justice like anyone else. *points to flexed bicep with ‘Justice’ tattoo*

They need to make Polanski do what we do to the pederasts over here: write celebrity blogs.
So the French have finally found something they feel is worth defending, and its rape?
Weird people those frogs.
*spits on Quebecois officemate*
I think the lesson here is if you’re rich and break the law you can flee to another country where there will be no consequences. On the other hand if you’re like me, broke and unknown, you’re totally fucked.
How can anybody defend this guy? Seriously. I can’t even joke about it, it pisses me off so much.
Sigorney Weaver is the queen alien in:
Alien V: The Bitch is back
A little mistake is when I accidentally ran that red light, or forgot my tags expired (I do this about every 2 years).
I’m pretty sure drugging and raping a 13 year old counts as “big mistake” but I’m not a lawyer.
Burnsy: “Fine France, then how about you take O.J. Simpson, too?”
France: “Whoa, easy there dick.”
Weaver so wants to take a bite out of Polanski’s head right now.
Look, normally I’m a pretty pro-Europe kind of guy.
Translation: Looooooooooves banana hammocks.
So is Polanski some sort of rape-gnome, or is Weaver really 9 feet tall?
Brett Ratner also came to Polanski’s defense, stating: “It’s terrible to see a genius treated like this and I will portray it accurately when I tell it as my life story.”
I was going to make fun or Sigourney again, but that’s not too terrible for 60. Older than a cougar, younger than a Yeti?
Hey, remember back when France would cut the heads off rich corrupt assholes who think they’re above the law of the people?
The letter, which was read aloud at the festival, was signed by directors Wim Wenders, Volker Schloendorff and Bertrand Tavernier; actress Victoria Abril; cinematographer Peter Suschitzky; and screenwriter and actor Jean-Claude Carriere.
Oh, well that changes everything.
Roman Polanski claims the act was consentual; the girl claims he fed her so many quaaludes she mistook him for one of her 7th grade classmates.
Seriously, if you’re not going to get jail time anyway, just come back to our country so we can have the joy of kicking you the fuck back out again.
Yea Robo, the only people the French are good at fight are other French foppish dandies.
So yea, I mostly just posted this because I wanted to use the phrase “foppish dandies”.
Banner pic: Polanski is offering a young lady in the front row quaaludes from his special candy dish. The other two are trying their best to ignore him.
The Polish Filmmakers Association posted a letter to its website, but it was actually just a piece of paper taped to a monitor.
Oh, and here’s a petition to free Polanski, full of Hollywood types we should now shun:

First name on the list? Woody Allen. You can’t make this shit up.
Worst tween pick up line ever: You ever smoked Polanski?
How come this rapist asshole is still revered? I remember when Rob Lowe got caught banging that 16 year old and he still can’t good work.
Holy christ, the angle of the banner pic makes it look like the guy on the right, whom I should probably recognize, has Nic Cage forehead.
In related news, Woody Allen is glad he lives in America.
Stephanie Meyer’s been raping our kids for the past three years but she’s a woman so she gets away with it.
Polanski has officially announced his thanks to his European supporters. As a token of his gratitude, he has offered to take all their granddaughters out for an evening of laughs and drug-assisted fucking.
France used to be a country full of badasses and hard-core tittyfuckers, but then World War I came along and all the awesome French soldiers died out, leaving only the pussies, the conscientious objectors, the ill, and the women. Basically, they fucked their own gene pool.
Sure, the 13 year old was saying no but in Polanski’s defense, it was backwards day so…
He’s a brilliant guy, and he made a little mistake 32 years ago.
That’s not a direct quote. The full quote actually says “He’s a brilliant guy, and he made a little mistake cry about her bleeding asshole 32 years ago.”
The shadow of that award is probably the only weird thing that’s been done to Sigourney’s vaginal area lately.
In Frances defense, there are some really sexy Quebecois women. Wait, is that still France? God Canada is confusing.
Rape shmape, this is the guy that directed The Ninth Gate, he should be extradicted and executed just for that.
In fairness to Europe, through the magic of bullshit logic, by now all he did was rape a 45 year old woman.
What they never show you in films with grocery bags that have a baguette sticking out the top when a character is walking down a street in France is that there are severed teenager heads in the bottom of those bags.
When I be humpin’ the little girls, I calls what they do “The Roman Pole-Dance-ski”. *wink*
You know what they say about statutory rape in France…
If she’s old enough to say ‘oui’, she’s old enough for me.

Sigourney Weaver: Why it’s that delightful TV leprechaun! I’m going to get your lucky charms!
*gets out power drill*
Roman Polanski: Oh no, my brains!
The whole petition thing has precedent: http://www.pigdog.org/the_vault/docs/Petition.pdf
This is such BS, all you ignorant dumbasses need to get off your high-horses.
Look, I’m not saying what he did was totally cool, but let’s look at the facts here:
1) Polanski ALREADY SERVED TIME for this offense.
2) It’s been shown the legal proceedings were highly irregular and skewed due to a Judge who was milking the thing for media attention. For God’s sake the PROSECUTOR even said there was too much monkey business.
3)Look, He raped someone, and that’s not OK…but both parties were on drugs at the time, and his judgment was impaired. Obviously, in his mind she wanted it. Again that does not make it OK, but it’s important to distinguish between violent sexual offenders/predators who get off on the idea of forcing/hurting someone and someone who has made a mistake.
Let’s not forget his wife was brutally murdered not long before…again it’s not like that gives him a free pass; but can you blame him for being a bit unbalanced?
4)I find it really difficult to go down this road, but I feel I have to…let’s come back to the fact that they were both on drugs. Also, this girl had apparently used drugs before, and was not a virgin by most accounts.
I’m not saying she invited or deserved it…and it is a little cruel to accuse a rape victim of lying…but let’s get real here…it does happen. Every year numerous guys are jailed/almost jailed for “rape” that didn’t really happen.
…the fact of the matter is it’s his word against hers. The only two people who will ever know exactly what happened are Roman and the girl…Now, I think it’s safe to say that he did SOMETHING wrong, and he admits it…it’s a question of exactly how it went down.
Which reminds me…all of you jackasses are forgetting perhaps the most important thing here..
oh yea…what does THE FREAKING GIRL have to say about this?
“I’m sure if he could go back, he wouldn’t do it again. He made a terrible mistake but he’s paid for it.”
“I think he’s sorry, I think he knows it was wrong. I don’t think he’s a danger to society.”
Look again, I’m not saying what he did was OK, but NONE OF YOU KNOW what happened! We only have some idea that he forced himself on this girl, and the fact of the matter is we don’t live in a black and white world, and everything is a question of degree…really none of you have ever hit on a girl only to realize she’s totally not into it? Not quite the same thing granted, but COME ON!
The most important thing here is the victim is satisfied, so get off your freaking high-horse. I’m willing to bet that most of the people condemning Roman have made mistakes in their life, probably ones as bad or worse than his.
I’m not saying we should just gloss over this bad thing he did, but we need to keep it in perspective! Punishment and condemnation should fit with what a person did.
Also, by all accounts from people who ACTUALLY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT (i.e. not random dumbasses commenting on the internet)…Polanski is not a pedophile. He is for the most part sexually attracted to adults.
Come on, you hypocrites…it’s not like you’ve never been at the mall and seen a cute girl, only to realize she was way underage. True, you did not rape said girl, but that’s not what most of you idiots are going on about, it’s the fact that she was 13.
He made a mistake, he paid for it, everyone just get over it already….I think it’s sad that people are so insecure and full of BS that you need talk s**t on a situation THAT YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW ABOUT to make yourselves feel better.
The most important thing here is the victim is satisfied
That’s not what SHE said!
The only idiot dumbass here is you jrandomhacker. Oh did I leave out bleeding hearted liberal.
Please explain how he paid his crime. By spending a few weeks in a hospital then having to live in Europe. Tell that to the people whom were not rich whom paid for there crimes.
Geez what an idiot.
Throw Polanski under the jail just for fleeing from justice.
