The first part of a viral marketing/mockumentary short about Raaaandy, Aziz Ansari’s character who will play some part in Judd Apatow’s Funny People, has hit the web. I got through about a minute of it. Everyone thinks this Randy character is hilarious, and nothing against Aziz Ansari (who was in a really good Flight of the Conchords episode), but I don’t quite get it. I guess it’s supposed to be a parody of a bad comedian. So it’s like, unfunny on purpose? And if that’s the case, isn’t the Raaaaaaaandy character a lot like Dave Chappelle’s Reggie Warrington character in the Nutty Professor? (See clip below)
Or maybe I’m just racist for thinking all deliberately bad, fictional black comedian parodies look the same.

I don’t want to get all Professor Comedy over here when there’s perfectly good dick jokes to be made, but I think this is more a parody of guys like Dane Cook who rely on silly stage antics and cliches instead of actual jokes and the whole slew of non-black comedians who have really hacky routines that try to have some kind of “hip hop” edge to them rather than, you know, actually being funny (See: Ralphie May, et al). In conclusion, DICK FART TITTIES.
Raaaaandy’s breath smells like aaaaaaaaaaaassss.

Fair enough. Like I said, I’m kind of trying to figure it out, so I welcome people telling me why I’m wrong on this one.
I say this with all due respect, but the only funny thing I’ve seen an Arab do was clip a bike messenger with his cab and I don’t think he was trying to be funny.
I laughed at the DJ guy a couple times.
To be fair, Dave Chappelle didn’t invent bad comedians. I mean, he’s one of the good ones.
On a scale of Carlos Mencia to Delirious-era Eddie Murphy, I give this a solid ‘meh’

After seeing Aziz live, I have to admit I’m a fan. He has a great routine, randy aside.
The concept of Randy and the execution thereof is hilarious as well. “I’ve been doing stand-up for about two months.” He is satirizing the rapid success of gimmick comics, especially in light of under appreciated, hilarious comics that have been honing their art for years. (ie: zack galifianakis up until very recently)
