Kevin Spacey and Colin Firth are attached to star in an adaptation of George Orwell’s Homage to Catalonia, a story I’m happy to report, both because it’s an awesome book and because Variety couldn’t even get the GD title right.
“Catalonia” revolves around the real-life story of how Orwell and his wife Eileen traveled to Barcelona to fight Stalinism. There, Orwell joined the Anarchist brigade and fought in the Spanish Civil War. Film will highlight the relationship between Orwell and Georges Kopp, the charismatic commander of the brigade. (*buzzer sound*) Sorry, thanks for playing! What the non-fiction book is actually about, which TWO Variety reporters apparently couldn’t be bothered to get right, was Orwell traveling to Barcelona to fight Francisco Franco’s Fascists, at which point he joined (partly by chance) the POUM, an anti-Stalinist militia (Spain was kind of a cluster F at the time). Later, he got shot in the throat by a sniper and almost died. He originally had a hard time getting the book published, as it was equally critical of the Fascists and the Communists. And I’m sure the process of getting a movie version greenlit wasn’t any easier, as exec after exec opened the book, looked confused for a second and asked, “Uh… Where’s the pictures?”

Vince, I’ve never found you sexier than I did just now.
I’ve had enough experience with alcohol abuse that I could write “Homage to Catatonia”.
Vinnie, we could have collaborated on this post together. You could tell people what this book is about and I’ll locate Waldo.
So which one will be playing Eileen?
Later, Franco’s army took on the United Stated in the Franco-American wars. Many a Spaghetti-O was slaughtered in those brutal battles for dinnertime supremacy.
You KNOW Firth is all about the power bottom.
The same Variety writer went on to say that Orwell’s ’1984′ was about three years before she was born.
Something tells me both of these actors have experience getting shot in the throat.
Firth and Spacey jokingly refer to the title as Catabonia, but then they just stare at each other.
Variety: In his famously misspelled “Homepage to Catalonia” Orwell talked about salad dressing.
The studio execs will work so hard to slip a “and Fransisco Franco is still dead” joke in there somewhere.
Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes get down to “Homage to Cantina”!
“Homage to California”‘s cast would mostly consist of Mexicans.
Spacey and Firth agree: Two legs bad, on all fours good.
Kevin Spacey’s asshole is an oar-well.
Homos and Cantalopes?
“Uh… Where’s the pictures?”
Gary Glitter says the same thing every time he gets back his computer.
