Jackie Chan is a huge star in China and is vice chairman of the China Film Association, so it’s perhaps understandable that he doesn’t spend too much time criticizing the Chinese government. But at a recent public appearance, he seemed, shall we say, oversupportive.
“I’m not sure if it’s good to have freedom or not,” Chan told a business forum in the southern Chinese province of Hainan Saturday. He went on to say that freedoms in Hong Kong and Taiwan made those societies “chaotic.” “I’m gradually beginning to feel that we Chinese need to be controlled. If we’re not being controlled, we’ll just do what we want.”
Not surprisingly, his comments drew criticism pretty much everywhere except mainland China, where the government encourages its citizens to feel free to shut the hell up if you don’t have something pro-government to say.
“He’s insulted the Chinese people. Chinese people aren’t pets,” Hong Kong pro-democracy legislator Leung Kwok-hung told The Associated Press. “Chinese society needs a democratic system to protect human rights and rule of law.” Another lawmaker, Albert Ho, called the comments “racist,” adding: “People around the world are running their own countries. Why can’t Chinese do the same?”
Chan later attempted to clarify his comments, saying, “I didn’t mean to say ‘controlled’, exactly, I just meant that Chinese people need to be bound. You ever tried to date a broad with big man-feet? Shit’s gross, bro.”

Chan added “I thought ‘Braveheart’ was bullshit.”
All I’m saying, bro-san, is that these opium-crazy, century egg eaters gotta be kept on the short leash that used to belong to a dog that totally died of old age, gnome sayin?
Good thing they didn’t print the part where he said Americans deserve lead poisoning.
Chinese people aren’t pets? Well, in that case… RUN FREE LING CHANG!
The problem with Chinese freedom is that they’ll just want more freedom in an hour.
When asked about his stance on Taiwan, Chan said: “Taiwan? Taiwanna talk to you about Rush Hour 4!”
Looks like someone’s gonna have to slap a Ho.
I didn’t even think he could set foot in China, didn’t the triads want to fuck him up.
Didnt Jackie Chan when the Tibet war? Tibet was all Amistad on the world yelling “FREE-DOM” and Jackie Chan roundhoused the air then said “NO”, and Tibet was like “O-K”… I know how it went down brohams i was there.
Besides, Albert Ho’s right. Look at how great our countries are doing.
“P.S. If Tibet didn’t want it she wouldn’t have been bent over that sand mandala all sexily. The tease.”
I just meant that Chinese people need to be bound.
(Far) East Bound and (kept) Down?
Geez, it’s not like he put pee pee in their Coke.
As long as my Chinese mail order bride is really 12 while the brochure says that she’s 18, i’m ok with China.
This was all just a translator’s mistake. You see, in Chinese, “freedom” (pronounced “flee-dom”) means “Mexican food.” And “chaotic” means “diarrhea and flatulence.” So he has a point there. “Too much Mexican food makes societies have diarrhea and flatuence.”
Either that, or Jackie is proposing China become one giant D/s nation.
The outtake reel of his comments is hilarious. You should see how hard the Chinese Official standing behind him nails him with the bamboo cane when he slips up and says “Freedom would be nice.”
Don’t Chinese people answer to Lo Pan?
Great, if Ho doesn’t stop bitching, we’re just gonna end up with that many more Chinamen here looking for a ‘vote’
Whats that Al? They’re already there in Hongcouver? dang.

See if you’re going to rip a guy to pieces for some thing at least do it right. Chan didn’t bring up race once and although China may not be a democracy I’m still pretty sure it’s run by Chinese people.
Now we know that the real reason Jackie Chan has spent his entire life training to become a masterful kung fu fighter is to enslave mankind, because he has seen the truth, and the truth is ugly…and chinese.
