Dimension films is making Superhero, a comic-book parody that would seem like a horribly ill-advised remake of Mystery Men if it didn't star Leslie Nielsen, Jeffrey Tambor, and Chris "Shooter McGavin" McDonald.
The film will be directed by the guy who wrote Scary Movie 3 and 4 (enthusiasm fading…), and produced by David Zucker (Airplane!) and Robert K. Weiss (The Naked Gun sequels) – enthusiasm leveling off…
If this isn't any good I'll be very sad. Leslie Nielsen is pretty much my hero. Heck, I'd name my first born Leslie if it weren't such a fruit name. -[via Hollywood Reporter]
UPDATE: Apparently, it's also got commander Data from Star Trek. I always thought he deserved more work.

Shooter McGavin rules. Also Jeffrey Tambor is ok.
I = unenthused. Leslie Nielsen used to be really funny, but films like Spy Hard and 2001: A Space Travesty pretty much killed of any credibility he once had. He's sadly become very much like Nic Cage, in that he pays the same character over and over and over…
Jeffrey Tambor picks up some good stuff (sigh, Arrested Development), but he does just as much shit as he does good stuff. What was the name of that show he had for five minutes last season?
And Shooter? Shooter is the man. But most Middle America has no idea who he is, and he'll do whatever he can to get a paycheck.
The potential is there, but it just might be potential for disaster.
And that's without getting into the fact that there's at least one person on the project who was involved with the Shitty Movie series.
Tambor is great.
"Daddy horny, Michael."
i'm praying that o.j. simpson will have a cameo! that guy's fucking hilarious! he kills it!!!
indeed chodin, o.j. simpson certainly does kill. and steal.
The problem here, of course, is that superhero movies are ALREADY parodies of themselves. So, making fun of their cliches will be walking a fine line between being humorous and being just another shitty superhero movie. And don’t call me Shirley.
Jacktion, I am taking your unenthusiasm and officially shitting on it, and then pissing on it, and then raping it. While more than a few parody movies have blown, this one definitely sounds like it could be insane.
Wow, suddenly I really want to see this!
But seriously, rape isn't cool. I got raped by a bunch of old chicks at karaoke last week.
Wow, I suddenly want to see THAT!
Yeah, actually everybody except me enjoyed the hell out of it. I didn't really get raped, just molested. A lot. True story! They actually chased me out to the parking lot with the wireless mic. I got in my car and set off the panic alarm, but kept singing the whole time. I'm a trooper like that.
What song were you singing that caused such a spectacle??? I'm thinking Right Said Fred. That'd do it.
not that your egregarious sex appeal wasn't enough….
Yeah, this has potential, but there are alot of maybe/maybe not people and concepts involved, so it will take a massive effort to get it to just the right level of silliness with killing all of that potential in the process. I'm hoping for the best, expecting the worst, like I do with all movies of this type.
Koru, I was acyually molested during several songs, but I ran outside and got in the car while singing (shudders) Hey There Delilah by the Plain White Tees. The bartender loves that song, and asked me to sing it. And since she controlles the booze, I'll sing anything she wants.
As a former bartender, I can say that is an excellent attitude.
Well, at least you didn't sing, "Who wants to know?" by Jimmy Ray. I was raped by two large English men and a deflated soccer ball after singing that. Couldn't help it though. I was feeling dangerous…
I have always had excellent relationships with all my bartenders. I know how I want to be treated, so I treat them the way they want to be. And it works. I never wait for drinks.
"The film will be directed by the guy who did Scary Movie 3 and 4 (enthusiasm fading…), and produced by David Zucker."
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't David Zucker the one that directed BOTH Scary Movie 3 and 4?? Thus, having the above sentence make Zero sense.
Swoop – you are correct. David Zucker did direct those, and they were written by Craig Mazin, who is directing Superheroes. Forgive me. The original info in this post was based on this sentence from the HR: Craig Mazin's "Superhero," set for a March theatrical release, will be cut from the same cloth as the writer-director's "Scary Movie 3" and "Scary Movie 4" parodies.
I guess, technically, they were only saying that CM is a writer-director, not that he was writer-director of SM 3 and 4. Apparently I'm not smart enough to decode their retarded sentence syntax. "What, were you being chased?"
Its cool, I just wanted to clarify that….
If it makes it to TBS I'll watch. Or if I hear it quoted enough.
